I am 22 years old. This herpes just pissed me off! It appeared when I was only a child, at the first class of the school and continues till now. It appears every time when the immune system become week. The tumor is localized on the face and on the lips, I’ve even got some scars on my face because of it. It’s not very noticeable, but nevertheless it still there. Tried hospital treatment with various drugs, even some herbs for so many years that I guess I tried everything. My mom even stopped treating me. And so, when I started an independent life at age 18, gave birth to a baby and stayed at home in the warmth almost all the time, herpes stopped. But when the child turned 2.5 years old, herpes was back again. I read on the Internet that acyclovir is good and that the reviews are good too. Once I was at a friend’s house, saw Zovirax and spread it on a swelling. After a couple of hours there was an effect clearly and herpes stopped growing. Usually the tumor became so large that it was badly hurt when I moved my head. For the next 4 days, I used this med and as a result there were only dry abscesses.
Herpes is an unpleasant disease. It lives in everyone but does not always appear. Mostly this type of herpes appears when you’ve got a weak immunity, like after suffering colds. I’ve got it once or twice a year, but always unexpectedly. Zovirax really helps to treat inflammation so my lip does not grow huge. As far as I know, any antiviral drugs should be used immediately or in the first few hours for better effect. Also it is necessary to watch, that the sore did not crack and again did not bleed. Stay well and don’t get sick!
I had a sudden onset of cold sores and a new one appeared every day. I am on immunosuppressants so my body can not fight this virus on its own. After 5 days I went to my doctor. This medicine was amazing, within 24-48 hours, the blisters curled. The swelling and redness were also diminishing. I’m on 400 mg 3x a day for 10 days. I am currently on day 6. During the first few days I would feel numb (not dizzy) for a few hours after each dose, but that is gone now. My doctor gave me 2 refills for the next time I feel the onset I can start treatment immediately.
I have used a limited dose every day for 9 years without outbreaks. 400mg twice a day will stop an outbreak. The itching will usually stop within 12 hours after the first dose. I have not had to take it for more than two days. I have not experienced side effects from this medicine.
I used to have cold sores all the time when I was a child, either when exposed to too cold or when exposed to too much heat. Finally, I found a doctor who gave me a prescription (a few years ago, I’m an adult now) and the he prescribed Zovirax 200 mg 5x a day for 5 days. I have never had to take the medication for more than 2-3 days. Very grateful for this medication.
Zovirax is my first choice for the treatment of cold sores I have had since I was a baby girl. Using it together with Abreva helps to promote healing from within the sores. It took about three days, with no crusting or crunching that made it unpleasant and causing embarrassment.
What is Zovirax
FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved Zovirax (Acyclovir) as an effective prescription medicine in treating such infections as herpes zoster, varicella, encephalitis, and outbreaks of genital herpes whether it’s first-time or repeated. The drug impressively reduces the pain and speeds the healing of all the above-mentioned diseases.
Zovirax is also widely prescribed for preventing genital herpes outbreaks of those patients who carry this infection. This is a synthetic nucleoside analogue medication (antiviral) that prevents herpes virus from spreading in the patient’s body. Actually, it doesn’t cure the herpes virus. Neither does it prevent genital herpes from passing to other people. Its main purpose is just to stop the growth of the herpes infection.
Often Zovirax is also prescribed for treating herpes infections in nose, eyes, mouth and skin. This refers to those patients who have human immunodeficiency virus. Additionally, Acyclovir is effective in dealing with oral hairy leukoplakia and eczema herpeticum. The latter is a skin disease infected by a herpes virus.
As it was already mentioned above, Zovirax (Acyclovir) is effective in stopping a herpes virus from multiplying. This, in its turn, impressively eliminates the severity of the disease and prevents its spread.
Zovirax medication is available in different forms and dosages. Depending on the type of the herpes virus, a patient may choose capsules, liquid suspension or pills. These are all oral medicines which should be taken from two to five times a day to the doctor’s prescription. A course of treatment may last from five to ten days.
Generally, it’s recommended to start the treatment once the patient notices any signs of a herpes infection. However, in case the patient suffers from genital herpes, she can block outbreaks by using Acyclovir for a whole year. In this case, the medication can be taken from two to five times a day.
Herpes diseases are infectious even if you are treating them. Therefore, regardless taking Acyclovir treatment, don’t let your infected body parts contact with those of others not to pass the infection to them.
It’s categorically forbidden for pregnant and breastfeeding women to take Zovirax. The latter passes into breast milk and can seriously harm an infant. In such cases, doctors may prescribe an alternative medication.
Like any other medicine, Zovirax causes side effects. Some are mild while others quite serious. Most of all, allergic reactions have been registered within patients using Zovirax. The latter can also affect one’s liver. If oral variants of Zovirax commonly cause diarrhea, nausea, headaches or pains in abdominal, parenteral ones bring forward rash and hives, phlebitis or inflammation in the injection site, pains in abdominal and vomiting, as well as raised transaminase levels.
Acyclovir is registered to have interactions with over thirty diverse medications (usually moderate). Therefore, before starting the treatment, make sure your doctor or the pharmacist you buy Zovirax from are aware of all the drugs you take on a daily basis. Do never start or cease a course of treatment with Zovirax unless your doctor tells. Neither should you change the dose on your own. It’s strictly recommended to adhere to your doctor’s instructions.
Additionally, read the label of the medicine carefully to find out whether there is any ingredient you have an allergy for. Avoid overdosing. This may be fraught with serious consequences. Most of all, an overdose with Zovirax may lead to problems with a kidney. Here are the main symptoms of an overdose: seizures, agitation, loss of consciousness, extreme sleepiness, failure with kidney operation.
Zovirax tablets and capsules should be taken with a full glass of water. During the entire course of treatment, patients are advised to use much water. This will help kidneys work properly. The medication is taken with no regard to food, yet if a patient complains of a stomach upset while receiving Zovirax, the doctor may advise taking the drug with food. This will help significantly.
